The Shape of the World to Come
Laurent Cohen-Tanugi, Chair of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s Task Force on the Future of the European Union’s Lisbon Strategy
Offering a comprehensive analysis of world politics, Laurent Cohen-Tanugi takes on globalization’s cheerleaders and detractors, whom he claims have failed to recognize the full extent to which globalization has become a geopolitical phenomenon. Cohen-Tanugi suggests how we should approach our new “multipolar” world—a world that is anything but the balanced and harmonious system many envisioned as a desirable alternative to the “American Empire.”
Laurent Cohen-Tanugi is a Paris-based international lawyer and public intellectual and a recognized expert on European affairs and international relations. He is the author of An Alliance at Risk: The United States and Europe Since September 11 and a regular columnist for Le Monde and Les Echos. He was recently appointed by the French government to reflect on Europe’s strategy in the global economy in order to prepare for Sarkozy’s assumption of the presidency of the European Union. He is an alumnus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, the University of Paris, the Institute of Political Studies of Paris, the University of Paris law school, and Harvard Law School. His latest book, The Shape of the World to Come, will be available for purchase and signing at the program.
